iTero Digital Scanners
The iTero digital scanner is a modern intraoral imaging device used at our clinic to capture highly detailed, three-dimensional images of your teeth and surrounding gum tissues. It is used in place of traditional dental moulds and impression trays, providing a clean, fast and comfortable experience.
How the Scanning Process Works?
- A small handheld wand is gently moved around inside your mouth.
- As it’s passed over your teeth and gums, the device acquires live data and constructs a detailed 3D model.
- You can view the model in real-time on a screen in the treatment room, allowing you to see what the dentist sees.
- The digital impressions can then be used immediately for planning restorative work (crowns, bridges, implants) or orthodontic treatment (clear aligners, braces).
- Because everything is digital, the workflow is streamlined — files are sent electronically to labs or treatment-planning software without delay.
Why this is Better for You?
Comfort
No gooey impression trays or putty; scanning is quick and minimally invasive.
Speed
Scans can be completed faster than traditional impressions, reducing time spent in the chair.
Accuracy
High-resolution imaging means better-fitting restorations and orthodontic appliances, fewer errors and adjustments.
Visualization & communication
The live 3D view lets your dentist show you exactly what’s happening, explain treatment options more clearly and engage you in the decision-making process.
Digital records & follow-up
The scanned data is stored digitally and can be reviewed on subsequent visits, enabling consistent monitoring of treatment progress or tooth/ gum changes over time.
When We Use iTero at Our Practice
- Before fitting crowns, bridges, implant-supported restorations or veneers — to obtain precise digital impressions.
- During orthodontic treatment planning (such as clear aligner therapy) — to model expected tooth movement and outcomes.
- For routine checking of tooth/ gum changes — enabling earlier detection of issues like worn surfaces, misalignments, or shifting teeth.
- When patient comfort is a priority — especially if traditional impressions are problematic (gag reflexes, small mouth, sensitive treatment).
- Stay still and keep your mouth open as requested during the scan — it helps get a clean image quickly.
- Notify the dental team if you feel any discomfort, or if the wand gets too near a sensitive area.
- Ask to view the on-screen 3D model — it’s a great way to understand your diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Keep track of records and ask your dentist to show progression if you’re undergoing treatment over time.
to schedule an initial consultation & exam.
Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and, most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.
